This Privacy Policy describes how MenusAPI ("we", "us", or "our"), operated at menusapi.com, collects, uses, and protects information when you use our API service ("Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you subscribe to the Service through Stripe, we receive:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (as provided to Stripe)
  • Your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID

We do not collect or store your payment card details. All payment processing is handled by Stripe. See Stripe's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle payment data.

API Usage Data

When you make API requests, we log the following:

  • The API endpoint called
  • The restaurant URL submitted for scraping
  • The freshness tier requested
  • Response status codes
  • Whether the result was served from cache
  • Processing time
  • Timestamp of the request

Extracted Menu Data

The Service processes publicly available restaurant menu data from URLs you submit. This data includes restaurant names, menu categories, item names, descriptions, and prices. This data is cached to serve subsequent requests efficiently.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect personal information of restaurant patrons or end-users of your application.
  • We do not use cookies or tracking pixels on the API.
  • We do not collect IP addresses for profiling or marketing purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

Email address Deliver your API key, send billing-related communications, and provide support
Stripe customer/subscription ID Manage your subscription, provision and deactivate API keys, and process billing
API request logs Calculate metered billing, monitor service health, debug issues, and prevent abuse
Cached menu data Serve subsequent requests for the same restaurant without re-scraping, improving speed and reducing cost

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service:

  • Stripe — Payment processing and subscription management. Stripe receives your payment details directly. (Privacy Policy)
  • OpenAI — AI-powered menu data formatting and validation. Restaurant URLs and extracted text content may be sent to OpenAI's API for processing. (Privacy Policy)
  • Perplexity AI — Menu URL discovery. Restaurant names and locations may be sent for lookup. (Privacy Policy)
  • Groq — Source disambiguation. Limited restaurant data may be processed. (Privacy Policy)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained for the duration of your subscription and for a reasonable period afterward for billing and legal purposes.
  • API request logs are retained for up to 12 months for billing reconciliation and service monitoring.
  • Cached menu data is retained based on freshness tier settings (1 to 180 days) and may be purged periodically.
  • Upon account deletion, your API key and associated request logs will be deleted within 30 days.

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • API keys are generated using cryptographically secure random values.
  • All API communication occurs over HTTPS/TLS.
  • Database access is restricted and access-controlled.
  • Stripe webhook signatures are verified to prevent spoofing.

No system is 100% secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Delete your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Object to processing of your data in certain circumstances.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
